“Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one.” ― Neil Gaiman
Read by Julieanne: Every year an 11 year old boy joins his grandfather, his father and his father’s best friend on a deer hunt. The family owns a 640 hectare ranch in Northern California. This year as they begin the hunt, they spot a poacher on their land. It is here that the story unfolds after a shocking and disturbing event.
Bad things happen in this novel. Lots of blood is spilled. The story is harsh and unrelenting and it is not an easy read.
However, I really liked this book. It is so descriptive, especially when referring to the landscape. The writing is beautiful, containing detailed descriptions of the harsh, scenic mountainside. The way the writer describes the landscape as the sun moves across the sky, or the heat at midday, or the cool chill of the early evenings is captivating.
If you are looking for an upbeat and light read, this is not the book to choose!
