“Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one.” ― Neil Gaiman
Read by Julieanne: ‘The moment’ is a novel about Fern and Elliott.
Fern and Elliott used to be a couple, 25 years ago.
Today, Fern and Elliott run into each other at a train station.
They make plans to meet again that evening.
The rest of the book tells the story of their lives over the past 25 years. It also tells the story of what they do with that day, until they will meet up again in the evening.
The idea of the story interested me, plus it had been compared to ‘One day” by David Nicholls.
Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. It is interesting to look back on your life and think about the ‘what if?’ moments. The problem with this story is about 108 too many ‘what ifs’! There were also an awful lot of descriptive adult relations as well as naughty words! This didn’t seem to fit with the sentimental, reflective nature of the novel.
I thought I would go with something light after my last heavy read. But after reading ‘The moment’, I think I need a big dose of Cormac McCarthy!
